Welcome to CaptiOCR. Please read these Terms of Use ("Terms") carefully before downloading, installing, or using CaptiOCR software ("the Software"). By using CaptiOCR, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. License Agreement
CaptiOCR is released under the MIT License, which grants you the following permissions, provided that the license notices and attributions are preserved:
- Use the Software for personal, educational, and commercial purposes
- Modify the Software to suit your needs
- Distribute copies of the original or modified Software
- Include the Software in your own projects, including commercial products

2. Disclaimer of Warranty
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS, COPYRIGHT HOLDERS, OR CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.
You acknowledge that:
- CaptiOCR may contain bugs, errors, or other issues
- The Software may not be available uninterrupted or error-free
- The results of OCR processing may not be 100% accurate
- We do not guarantee the Software will meet your specific requirements
3. Intellectual Property Rights
The CaptiOCR name, logo, and all related names, logos, product and service names, designs, and slogans are trademarks of the CaptiOCR project or its contributors. You may not use such marks without prior written permission.
While the Software code is available under the MIT License, this does not grant permission to use the trade names, trademarks, service marks, or product names of the contributors, except as required for reasonable and customary use in describing the origin of the Software.
All content extracted by the Software belongs to its respective copyright owners. CaptiOCR does not claim ownership of any content processed through the Software.
4. User Responsibilities
When using CaptiOCR, you agree to:
- Comply with all applicable laws and regulations
- Respect the intellectual property rights of others
- Not use the Software for illegal, harmful, or offensive purposes
- Not attempt to circumvent, disable, or interfere with any security features of the Software
- Not use the Software to extract text from materials you do not have permission to access
- Not use the Software in any manner that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair any server, network, or other infrastructure
- Take responsibility for all activities that occur when using the Software
5. Updates and Modifications
CaptiOCR may release updates, patches, or new versions of the Software at any time. You are responsible for installing any updates you desire. We do not guarantee continued maintenance or support for any version of the Software.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Software or any part thereof, temporarily or permanently, with or without notice. You agree that we shall not be liable to you for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Software.
6. Termination
Your right to use CaptiOCR continues until terminated as follows:
- You may terminate these Terms by ceasing all use of the Software and deleting all copies
- We may terminate or suspend your access to the Software immediately, without prior notice, if you breach any provision of these Terms
- Upon termination, all provisions of these Terms which by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including but not limited to, warranty disclaimers, limitation of liability, and intellectual property provisions
7. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the CaptiOCR project, its contributors, licensors, and service providers, and its and their respective officers, directors, employees, contractors, agents, licensors, suppliers, successors, and assigns from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, awards, losses, costs, expenses, or fees (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to your violation of these Terms or your use of the Software, including, but not limited to, any use of the Software's content, services, and products other than as expressly authorized in these Terms.
8. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Italy, without giving effect to any principles of conflicts of law. Any legal action or proceeding arising under these Terms shall be brought exclusively in the courts located in Italy, and you hereby consent to personal jurisdiction and venue therein.
9. Contributions
We welcome contributions to CaptiOCR through our GitHub repository. By submitting content for inclusion in the Software, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, distribute, and display such content in connection with the Software.
All contributions must comply with our Contributor Guidelines available in our repository and must be compatible with the MIT License under which CaptiOCR is distributed.
10. Feedback and Submissions
Any feedback, suggestions, ideas, or other information ("Feedback") you provide regarding the Software may be used by us without restriction or compensation to you. While we value your input, we are not obligated to implement any Feedback you provide.
11. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid under any applicable law, such unenforceability or invalidity shall not render these Terms unenforceable or invalid as a whole, and such provisions shall be deleted without affecting the remaining provisions herein.
12. Entire Agreement
These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and CaptiOCR regarding the Software and supersede all prior and contemporaneous written or oral agreements, proposals, or representations.
13. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to modify or replace these Terms at any time. The most current version will be posted on our website. By continuing to use CaptiOCR after those revisions become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised terms.
